Maya Michelle Hudson: Poem – Free To Be

Unapologetically BLACK
Unapologetically ME
I am black beauty personified
The black woman is the most
disrespected, unprotected, socially, mentally, and emotionally affected….
by the trials and tribulations in this country
But we are free
Free to grow
Free to thrive
Free to come alive
to express our inner truths
to go about outer pursuits of the dreams manifested within us
to nourish our bodies filled with light and melanin
Freedom is near
Freedom is now
The journey’s just begun
My locs are on month 6, but I’m on day one
